The World’s Smallest Paddle Steamer It was full steam ahead for the RNLI on the River Medina when the life-saving charity’s Stormy Stan stepped aboard the pocket paddle steamer Monarch. The ship, claimed to be the world’s smallest paddle steamer, provided a floating attraction for an RNLI fund-raising event at the Folly Inn, Whippingham on Sunday (25 October).

 Hampshire & IOW Air AmbulanceGerry Read, the intrepid septuagenarian from Fordingbridge who took on the challenge of cycling from Lands End to John O’Groats, has returned home safe and successful, and in the process has raised over £3,100 for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance. On his return 71year old Gerry Read said ‘ I completed the End to End despite gale force winds, pouring rain, being knocked off my bike , spending four days with a tummy upset, and losing a stone in weight. Other than that there were no problems

An annual event that aims to show Isle of Wight Sports Clubs and individuals how to prosper and succeed is being held next month. Organised by Isle of Wight Council's Sports Unit, the Isle of Wight Community Sports Club Conference is being held at St George's Park, Newport on Monday 9 November between 1830 - 2100. The annual conference is designed for anyone involved in community sport, especially clubs, officials, coaches and volunteers.

If you're aged between 5 and 19, the UP2U fund wants to hear from you. They want your ideas - and if it's a good one, you'll get up to £20,000 to spend on it. It has to be something that will improve young people's health in Freshwater or Totland and you can either put a project together, or be part of the decision on how the £20,000 is to be spent.

Picnic at Cowes Yacht Haven
The Grand Auction and Autumn Picnic at Cowes Yacht Haven was another big success this year, raising more than £10,000 for charity. The event centre was the venue for the day, organised by Ventnor Rotary and St Catherine’s, on October 4. The hammer fell on more than 30 once-in-a-lifetime lots, including a week’s stay at a plush villa in Barbados, backstage tickets to the West End production of Mamma Mia, and a wine tasting experience with the award-winning Head Sommelier at Hotel du Vin Winchester.
