Films are Written, created and edited by a group of young adults. They don’t create boring documentaries or informercials, they are films by the youths for the youths so although they highlight a very important, serious issues, they also aim to make films that you and your mates would actually want to watch! > NEW ELECTRONIC BLOOD TRACKING SYSTEM AT ST MARY’S HOSPITAL

St Mary's Hospital, Isle of Wight

St. Mary’s Hospital has taken delivery of a new, state of the art, Blood Tracking System. The Hospital is one of the first hospitals in the UK to install the new system which will provide an electronic audit trail of all blood units in the hospital.

The Department of Health require Hospital Blood Banks to be able to track each individual blood component. The current system at St. Mary’s Hospital already tracks every blood component and an electronic issue system logs every unit that is issued from the blood bank, but then a paper trail is used to track every unit.

> MAY DAY CELEBRATIONS ON THE ISLAND

The Isle of Wight will be celebrating May Day in style this year as a new event will bring a whole new dimension to the age old tradition of May Day dancing.

The May Day Jouvay is a vibrant new Solent-wide celebration which fuses together dance styles as different as Calypso, Folk and Morris with Samba. The Isle of Wight Council-run Carnival Learning Centre is co-ordinating events on the Island to link in with partner organisations along the south coast.

> SNOOKER LOOPY ON THE ISLE OF WIGHT

With the World Snooker Championships currently taking place in Sheffield, Isle of Wight Council is unveiling it’s latest Sport4kids course.

An 8 week snooker course will begin on 8 May with interest in the sport currently high with the likes of Ronnie O’Sullivan, John Higgins & Steve Davis all competing on national TV.

> HONOUR FOR THOSE WHO VOLUNTEER THEIR TIME

As part of the UK’s Cadet 150 celebrations, Isle of Wight Council Chairman Arthur Taylor hosted a reception to honour those who volunteer their time to help the Cadet movement on the Isle of Wight.

It is believed that this is the first time anywhere in the UK that a local authority has honoured adult cadet volunteers in this way. The volunteers are integral to the cadet movement’s success, giving up their own time to help train and develop young people.
