It appears there has been a planning application made to Isle of Wight Council's licensing department for the former Royal British Legion, Orchard Street, Newport. to be turned into a strip club called Club Phoenix. The club has been described as 'An adult venue offering a full range of entertainment from full nudity, pole dancing, drag acts and strip tease.' David Parkman, The HMP Albany prison officer Who put in the application has said that Adult entertainment will only take place from 20:00 to 02:00 and late night refreshments from 11pm - 2am everyday. The application states the club wants the licence to trade from 10am in the morning to 2am in the morning. Nodehill Middle School headteacher David Morris has wrote a letter to the Planning & Licencing Committee and also to all the pupils parents a Nodehill, MP Andrew Turner, David Pugh, Newport Parish Council and the County Press. The IYP will publish the letter at some stage Monday. Zoryna O’Donnell, IW Council head of community safety services, said: “The application has been dealt with in accordance with the Licensing Act. “The Act prescribes a 28-day consultation period which commenced the day after the application was received by the council. A notice advertising the consultation stating the applicant’s intention to provide adult entertainment was displayed at the premises throughout the consultation period and this notice appeared in the Isle of Wight County Press.
