Swine Flu Confirmed In Norfolk Pigs

A sixth case of pandemic H1N1 2009 influenza virus in pigs has today been confirmed in the UK.

Pigs on a farm in Norfolk have been confirmed as having a strain of influenza commonly known as ‘swine flu’ in people. This follows earlier cases in Northern Ireland. Routine scanning surveillance has confirmed that the strain of the virus found is virtually identical to strains currently circulating in humans. It is not uncommon for pigs to be affected by influenza. Influenza in pigs is not a notifiable disease.

Swine Flu H1N1 cases are supposedly increasing so fast that the WHO, World Health Organization is no longer keeping a record of the number of cases.

The U.N. agency, which declared an H1N1 influenza pandemic on June 11 2009, said it was the fastest-moving pandemic ever and now pointless to count every case.  It told countries to stop reporting individual cases and concentrate on mitigation measures and detecting any unusual patterns of disease or spike in rates of absenteeism.”

Swine Flu Vaccines For Everyone

Deliveries of Swine Flu vaccines for the Isle of Wight are expected over the coming weeks with the first delivery to St. Mary’s Hospital for staff expected by the end of this week and deliveries into GP practices on the Island are anticipated to start next week.

Dr Paul Bingham, Consultant in Public Health and Communicable Disease Control says: “Over the coming weeks we will be receiving Swine Flu vaccine both at St. Mary’s Hospital and at GP practices."

The Island Is Well-Prepared

“The NHS and other public sector agencies on the Island are well-prepared to deal with a second wave of swine flu,” says Dr Paul Bingham, Consultant in Public Health Medicine and Communicable Disease Control. 

Dr Bingham continues: “The NHS has robust plans in place to deal with an increase in the number of swine flu patients alongside Winter pressures.  Our readiness was confirmed at the PCT Board Meeting in September. Our plans include the redeployment of staff and arrangements for doubling the intensive care bed capacity from eight to 16 beds on the Island.

75% Of People In Finland Refusing

In Finland at least three somewhat big media outlets, Ilta-Sanomat, MTV3 and Helsingin Sanomat, have held polls asking the Finnish people if they are going to take the swine flu vaccine, The results are as follows.

The first on-line poll was held by MTV3. It’s unclear how many people took part in it, but 61% said they do not want the swine flu vaccine. Nearly 12,000 people answered the Helsingin Sanomat gallup, and the overwhelming majority, 75%, answered “No”.
